Denver Broncos to wear orange jerseys in Super Bowl

It won’t look a thing like Mile High, but Super Bowl Sunday against the Seattle Seahawks is, officially, a home game for the Denver Broncos.

The balmy temperatures Peyton Manning and friends enjoyed during the AFC title game are a long shot at MetLife, but the Broncos will have full control over one aesthetic: jersey color.

Denver plans to roll with the orange shirts they’ve donned at Sports Authority Field since the start of the 2012 campaign, according to the team’s official site. They’re 14-2 in the regular season and 2-1 in the playoffs wearing those jerseys, and Manning is a documented creature of habit.

In-house uniform monitor Dave Dameshek is on record praising aspects of Seattle’s new look, but he’d rather see Denver deep six the orange duds for “the best uniform the Broncos have ever worn,” their 1960s orange-on-orange AFL duds.

The fashion fantasies will have to wait. Denver isn’t about to flip the script with one game to go.

Airline lets fans in Russell Wilson jerseys board early

As if Seattle fans needed another reason to purchase a Russell Wilson jersey this holiday season, the MVP candidate’s garb can now get them to the head of the line at the airport.

Alaska Airlines will allow passengers wearing Wilson’s No. 3 Seahawks jersey to board early on flights out of the Emerald City for the duration of the Seahawks’ season, according to KING-TV.

The Seattle-based airline announced a partnership with the quarterback, who has yet to lose an NFL home game. The airline did a similar promotion with the Portland Timbers (that’s the other kind of “fútbol”) last year. The airline marketing adds to the numerous sponsorships for Wilson, one of the NFL’s most likable players.

I do have some questions about this particular campaign:

1. What if everyone wears a Wilson jersey? (I’m just assuming every person in Seattle has one by now.) The airline told TMZ it wasn’t a big deal when it did the promotion with the Timbers. Umm, no offense, but you’re comparing U.S. soccer fans to one of the most rabid NFL fan bases in America.

2. What if a family is traveling together? Does everyone, including the 15-month-old child, need to have a jersey on to skip the line? Will this somehow lead to couples breaking up because the woman wore her Wilson jersey while her husband had to board with group 77?

3. When the airline says Wilson jersey-wearers can board early, how early are we talking? Surely not before military personnel, right? Hopefully before those wonky business schmoes who act like the airport is their personal taxi service. Certainly before disheveled sports writers.

4. If I put tape over my Rick Mirer jersey, will anyone notice?

Super Bowl 2016: Jersey City store owner busted with $155K counterfeited NFL jerseys, cops say

The owner of a Jersey City store was charged with possessing $155,000 worth of counterfeit NFL jerseys by Hudson County investigators who were assisting a CNN crew doing a story on phony merchandise sales related to the Super Bowl.

James J. Cervino, 39, of North Arlington, was arrested Tuesday after investigators found “more than 1,350 items including jerseys, hats, T-shirts and sweatshirts bearing counterfeit National Football League marks at his store at 352 West Side Ave.,” the criminal complaint says.

The arrest came after a rack of jerseys was spotted outside Cervino’s store while CNN was covering a task force searching for counterfeit NFL merchandise. The task force is composed of members from the Department of Homeland Security, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office and the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, a sheriff’s office spokesman said.

A representative of the NFL was called to the scene and he determined the jerseys were counterfeit, according to the incident report. Task force members then entered the store and found more than 1,000 additional items bearing NFL markings that were also deemed to be counterfeit, the report says.

Cervino was arrested and charged with possession with intent to distribute counterfeit NFL merchandise, the complaint says.

“With the Super Bowl so close to Hudson, there is a lot of counterfeiter merchandise around,” Hudson County Sheriff Frank Schillari said yesterday. “Beware of what you purchase because it may not be authentic.”

Giants’ Odell Beckham and Randy Moss exchange jerseys before game

EAST RUTHERFORD — Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. met with one his football idols before Monday night’s game against the Bengals. Former NFL great Randy Moss was at MetLife Stadium in his role as an ESPN analyst.

Beckham gave a Giants jersey to Moss, who provided a Vikings jersey to the young receiver.

Here’s what wrote to each other.

Here is what Beckham wrote on the jersey he gave to Moss:

“Believe it or not, you’ve taught me more than you can imagine. Thank you for reminding me to stay and be different. Can’t stop, won’t stop!! I’m coming for ya!! Luv! Bless!”

Here is what Moss wrote on the jersey he gave to Beckham:

“Stay focused. ‘Go get it.’ Best wishes.”

Last year, Beckham broke Moss’ record for most receiving yards in his first two NFL seasons. Beckham did an interview with Moss last week at the Giants’ facility. Beckham said he tried to pick Moss’ brain.

“He started something that even now, he has his own little segment: You got Mossed,” Beckham said. “The ‘Getting Mossed’ thing inspired a lot of receivers. You wanted to go up top on someone and you wanted to scoop the ball off his head and run it into the end zone. I’ve watched him streak down the field for years, change his route, just put his hand up and it’s like, ‘We’re gone and out of here.’ He’s a guy who I aspire to be like. Just him being able to be here, pick his brain and take whatever I can take from him is good.”

Steelers Rank Fifth In Jersey Sales In 2016, Troy Polamalu Out Of Top 15

According to recent sales figures from NFLShop.com, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III had the top selling jersey last year, while the San Francisco 49ers had the highest teams sales. In fact, Griffin’s jersey sales set an all-time record.

As far as the Pittsburgh Steelers go, they finished fifth in team sales and safety Troy Polamalu finished 17th overall in individual sales. He was the only Steelers player to crack the top 25. Since coming into the league in 2003, Polamalu has normally finished in the top 10 every year.

Just two years ago at this time, the Steelers had six players in the top 25.

This year, as you can imagine, quarterbacks top the list, as seven make up the top ten. The Super Bowl Champion Baltimore Ravens came in second to the 49ers in team sales, and their now retired linebacker, Ray Lewis, came in third in individual sales.

Colin Kaepernick’s 49ers jersey has become NFL’s top selling item

Colin Kaepernick has never been more popular.

The suddenly controversial San Francisco 49ers back-up quarterback has been the talk of the sports world for over a week. With a spot on San Fran’s 53-man roster secure, don’t expect the Kaepernick conversation to go away any time soon.

Sooner or later, you might find yourself in a debate with someone showing the ultimate fan support for Kaepernick’s social justice crusade.

The reason? Kaepernick’s jersey sales have inexplicably skyrocketed on NFL.com over the past few weeks. While the former NFC champion signal caller was once a popular player and hot-selling jersey, the best of Kaepernick on the field never produced what the NFL is seeing now.

According to the NFL Shop website, Kaepernick’s jersey has risen to the No. 1 overall best seller in the league. No. 2? New Eagles starting quarterback Carson Wentz. Following those quarterbacks on the list? Cowboys rookie running back Ezekiel Elliott and Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr.

To put that into perspective, the 49ers back-up quarterback is selling more jerseys than Cam Newton, Von Miller, J.J. Watt, the new big thing in football-crazy Philadelphia, the star back on America’s team and the best wide receiver in the NFL who happens to play in the biggest market in sports.

The red 49ers home Kaepernick jersey ranks No. 1. As for the white road version? No. 16 among all of the best sellers.

NFL and Nike Reveal Color Rush Uniforms

Falcons to wear all-red Color Rush uniform this year.

First introduced last season, the NFL Color Rush program, in partnership with Nike, was started as a way to give NFL teams the opportunity to honor each franchise and engage spirited fans and cities while adding yet another reason to watch on Thursday nights.

Featuring a full-color head-to-toe look, each club’s Color Rush uniform takes inspiration from both its current and historic uniform colors and designs, combined with progressive innovation that will set the tone for the future of the game and light up Thursday Night Football, the fastest growing NFL primetime night.

Today, the NFL and Nike unveiled Color Rush uniforms for all 32 teams, to be worn across fifteen Thursday Night Football games this season.

The Falcons selected a bold all-red head-to-toe uniform aesthetic, however due to a color conflict in their Thursday Night matchup against Tampa Bay on November 3, Atlanta will wear their white uniform as the away team. As the home team, the Buccaneers – who also chose an all-red look – will wear their Color Rush uniform while the Falcons will wear all-white.

The Falcons join eight other NFL teams that will also be unable to wear their Color Rush jerseys this season but, rest assured, Atlanta fans can expect to see the Falcons in their official Color Rush uniforms in seasons to come.

One hundred percent of the NFL’s proceeds from the sale of Color Rush jerseys will go directly to the NFL Foundation to fund health, safety and wellness programs for youth around the country. The NFL Foundation is the league’s non-profit organization, representing all 32 clubs, and funds grants to support athletes, youth football and the communities that support the game. The first $500,000 raised from this initiative will be earmarked to replace youth and high school football equipment and fields lost in last month’s devastating floods in Louisiana.

Giants’ Odell Beckham Jr. has highest-selling jersey in the month of January

Apparently, NFL jersey sales spike after hamstring injuries. Despite an extended absence from the practice field, Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. had the highest-selling jersey in the month of June, per NFLShop.com, the NFL’s official merchandise site.

Beckham leapfrogged Tennessee Titans rookie quarterback Marcus Mariota for the top spot, but nine of the top 10 jerseys from the month of May remained in the top 10. Eagles running back DeMarco Murray’s jersey also debuted in the top 10, from No. 11 to No. 9.

Beckham has been unable to show off his skills on the field this offseason, with a nagging hamstring injury keeping him sidelined, but his popularity off the gridiron is at its peak. In addition to nabbing the cover of the next Madden video game, Beckham has been a ubiquitous presence on social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter.

Beckham will get to work following up his stellar rookie season (91 catches for 1,305 yards and 12 touchdowns) when training camp begins on July 30. Expect to see a fair amount of No. 13 jerseys in attendance at the Giants’ training center.

But they’ll also wear white pants against Green Bay, allowing the Broncos to recreate the uniforms they wore against the Packers in Super Bowl XXXII.

The Broncos will wear their blue alternate jerseys for home games against the Green Bay Packers and Oakland Raiders. But in a twist from the last three seasons, the Broncos will break out the white pants with orange stripes for the Packers game on Nov. 1.

They’ll wear blue pants against the Raiders on Dec. 13, continuing the recent tradition (since 2012) of wearing all-blue once a year.

The return of the white pants with orange stripes allows the Broncos to recreate their uniform ensemble from their Super Bowl XXXII win over the Packers. That game will also witness Owner Pat Bowlen’s induction into the team’s Ring of Fame.

Some of the Broncos’ most memorable wins came in the blue-and-white ensemble, including that Super Bowl, the divisional-round win over the two-time defending champion Patriots in January 2006 and the last previous game in blue-on-white, the Jan. 8, 2012 wild-card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The two appearances of the alternate jersey are the maximum allowed by the league in a regular season.

The Broncos have not worn blue jerseys against the Raiders since Oct. 24, 2010, when it was still the primary jersey color.

Since reversing their colored jerseys and making orange the primary jersey, the Broncos are 3-0 in their all-blue uniforms, including one of their most thrilling recent wins, the 51-48 triumph at Dallas in 2013. This will mark the second consecutive season in which the Broncos have worn their blue jerseys in prime time; they wore an all-blue ensemble for a Sunday Night Football win over the 49ers last October.
